Extraction and Manufacturing

The local stone quarries are the identifying element of the Salento tradition and they have been a key resource in the whole history of local construction industry. Pietra Leccese represents an asset for the Salento region from different points of view, over the centuries it has been in fact an important protagonist for the realization of the great baroque works. It is an ancient material used for the creation of monuments and other works of artistic value.


The versatility of this stone is given by its consistency: sometimes tender and easy to shape, sometimes rigid and calcified;
It is characterized by different colors and textures that vary from white, ivory, light gray, to bright yellow and ocher, according to its applications and to the settings it is intended for.


Extraction Sites

To meet all the market needs, the extraction basins of Bianco Cave provide different qualities and shades of stones:

  • Carparo: extracted from the quarry of Gallipoli, is a stone of a porous and rustic texture;
  • Pietra Leccese: It has a straw color, it is extracted from the querries of Zollino, Corigliano, Martano and Melpignano. It is a hot and elegant stone, the most used of them;
  • Grey Pietra Leccese: extracted from Melpignano’s quarry, is suitable both for modern applications and uses, both for the classic ones;
  • Ostuni White Stone is a white and refined stone;
  • Poggiardo Stone: It has marmaoreal stripes.
